Disability and Child Abuse Action Network (DCAAN)
Children and adults with disabilities continue to be at greater risk for abuse in all of its forms. Although progress has been made in many areas to help provide greater protection for this vulnerable group of individuals, efforts continue to be fragmented with limited opportunities to see the “whole picture”. DCAAN began in Summer, 2010 as a global initiative to share information on our collective strategies for enhancing child abuse prevention, intervention, treatment and support programs for children and adults with disabilities and their families. Its goal is to focus advocacy related to 4 areas of concern: Awareness, Training, Policies and Research. It is only when all four areas are further developed and connected will we achieve greater protection for ALL.
